General Rules

  1. Pulls are for ages 4-12 years old. Some members offer 3 year old and 13 through adult classes but only 4-12 are sanctioned and qualify for the state championship.

  2. Competitors will enter the age group for the age that they are on the day of the pull. This rule also applies to State and National championship pulls. State and National pulls will require proof of age and qualification voucher received at a qualifying lower level pull.

  3. 12 year old competitors are allowed to pull at all levels until their 13th birthday. They are not eligible to compete if their 13th birthday is on or prior to the date of the pull.

  4. Each participant must register prior to the start of their age group.

  5. A competitor may not place a hand on the tractor tire at any time during their pull to help increase their distance. Both hands should be on the steering wheel during the pull.

  6. A competitor may not place one or both feet on the ground to push the tractor forward. Both feet should be on the pedals during the pull.

  7. There can be no loss of forward pressure. It is not permitted to stop and start again. No jerking by pedal or body mass.

  8. The competitor must remain in contact with the seat bottom at all times. If a contestant lifts off the seat the pull will be stopped and the competitor’s distance will be measured at the location that they lifted. If a seat has a backrest, contact to the seat is defined as contact with the seat bottom.

  9. All competitors must wear shoes, no bare feet. (Tie, Velcro shoes, or boots that completely enclose the foot and provide good traction on the pedals is strongly recommended.)

  10. The pull officials may stop a class to reweight the sled and start the class over again. (Usually after the first 5 pullers in the class.)

  11. Any arguing with the track officials by a contestant, parent, or guardian will not be allowed and could result in disqualification of the contestant. The association members will do their best to provide a fair competition.

  12. All rulings by track officials are final and may supersede any of the rules listed here.

  13. Sanctioning: In Nebraska a sanctioned local pull will qualify the top three girls and top three boys in each age group, for ages 4-12, for the State championship.

These are general rules. Each pull operator may have slight variations. These rules are followed at the Nebraska State and National Championship competitions.
